Mexico Floods 2025: 64 Dead, Hundreds Affected by Hurricane Priscilla & Tropical Storm Raymond
Hearing the news from Mexico today makes my heart very heavy. For the past few days, the central and southeastern regions of Mexico have been facing severe conditions due to heavy rains and storms. Hurricane Priscilla and Tropical Storm Raymond have wreaked havoc across the country. Floods and landslides have claimed the lives of at least 64 people, and 65 people are still missing. Hearing these numbers sends shivers down one’s spine.
The most affected areas are Veracruz, Hidalgo, and Puebla. In Veracruz, 29 people have died, and 18 are still missing. In Poza Rica city, the Cazones River rose up to 12 feet, causing damage to thousands of homes. People’s lives have been suddenly destroyed, and many families are now in shelter camps. Seeing these scenes makes one feel deep human sorrow.
Hidalgo is also facing very critical conditions. Here, 16 people have lost their lives, and 13 are still unaccounted for. Hospitals and schools have also been damaged by this disaster. In Puebla, 9 people have died, and 13 are missing. More than 80,000 people have been affected there. Just imagine how many lives have been destroyed in these three states alone.
The biggest loss from this natural disaster is not only human lives but also infrastructure. Over 1,000 km of roads have been damaged, more than 320,000 people are without electricity, and thousands need shelter. Pemex has claimed some oil residue contamination, though no oil spill has been confirmed yet.
The Mexican government has deployed over 10,000 soldiers to assist in relief efforts. Helicopters and boats are being used to deliver rations, water, and medical supplies to the affected areas. President Claudia Sheinbaum has assessed the affected areas and instructed local authorities to provide every possible assistance.
Hearing the stories of the people is heartbreaking. Families who spent nights in their homes with rising water are now in temporary shelters. Children, elderly people, and women are all affected. Some have no food, some have no warm clothing, and some are still missing. Thinking about this makes one’s soul shiver.
On social media and news channels, people are appealing for help and donations. The international community has also stepped forward to provide aid during this difficult time in Mexico. If we are in Pakistan, we can send help through the Pakistan Red Crescent or Edhi Foundation. And if you are in Mexico, contact local authorities and humanitarian organizations.
These natural disasters remind us how fragile human lives are and that we must always stand for one another. Everyone should play their part—whether it’s delivering food, water, and basic supplies or sending donations. This is a time not just for complaints but for taking action.
I hope this post inspires people to help and raise their voices for the affected. The people of Mexico truly deserve our support and prayers at this time. Every life is precious, and this disaster teaches us that we must always be ready for humanity.
Finally, my prayer is that the affected people in Mexico find relief from this disaster soon, that the missing are found, and that reconstruction begins quickly in the affected areas. This is a time for solidarity and action, and even our small efforts can make a big difference.
