Blast at Pakistan Supreme Court – Gas Cylinder Explosion Injures 12, 2 in Critical Condition

Early this morning, an unexpected explosion occurred inside the Supreme Court building of Pakistan, causing panic and chaos in the surrounding area. According to initial reports, the explosion was not the result of a bomb but rather a gas cylinder blast. Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and provided immediate aid to the injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion took place in the basement of the Supreme Court, where maintenance and kitchen-related work was being carried out. At the time of the incident, several staff members and visitors were present inside the building. The blast was so powerful that it could be heard from nearby areas, leaving people in shock and fear for quite some time.

Quick Response by Rescue Teams

Rescue 1122 and Islamabad Police promptly took control of the situation. The injured were shifted to PIMS Hospital and Polyclinic Hospital for treatment. According to current reports, 12 people were injured, out of which two are in critical condition.

Authorities temporarily evacuated the building to carry out a thorough safety inspection.

A senior rescue officer told the media:

> “This blast was not caused by any explosive device, but by a leak in a commercial gas cylinder that burst. The site has been cleared and the situation is under control now.”

Security Alert and Investigation Launched

Since the blast occurred in a high-security building like the Supreme Court, security agencies immediately issued a high alert. The bomb disposal squad was also called in to rule out any other potential threats.

After initial inspection, officials confirmed that this was not a terror-related incident. However, an investigation team has begun a detailed inquiry to determine who was responsible for the cylinder’s maintenance and at what level the safety lapse occurred.

Judicial and Administrative Work Temporarily Suspended

Sources revealed that several ongoing hearings inside the Supreme Court have been temporarily suspended. The court administration stated that certain sections of the building have been sealed off until a complete gas and electrical safety survey is conducted.

An official said:

> “We do not want to take any risks. Ensuring safety is our first priority before resuming normal court activities.”

Public Reaction on Social Media

As soon as the news of the explosion broke, people took to social media to express their concern and prayers. On Twitter (X) and Facebook, #SupremeCourtBlast started trending within minutes.

Many users questioned how safety protocols could be neglected in such a sensitive building. One user wrote:

> “It’s a relief that no lives were lost, but this shows how weak our safety systems are — they must be made stricter.”

Others appreciated the quick response of the rescue teams and shared prayers for the injured.

Government’s Official Statement

A spokesperson from the Interior Ministry issued a short press statement saying:

> “According to initial investigation, this was not a terrorist activity. It was an unfortunate accident caused by a gas leak. We are thankful that no fatalities were reported.”

He further added that the government will soon begin a fresh round of gas and electrical safety inspections across all government buildings to prevent such incidents in the future.

Experts’ Opinions

Safety experts pointed out that many government offices still use outdated gas systems and cylinders, which are rarely replaced on time. They emphasized the importance of installing leak detection systems and conducting regular maintenance checks.

A safety engineer commented:

> “This is not just an accident — it’s a wake-up call. Unless safety becomes part of our routine checks, such incidents will continue to happen.”

The Public’s Question – Who is Responsible?

Every time such an incident occurs, the same question arises — who is responsible?

Was it the maintenance department’s negligence?

Were safety inspection reports falsified?

These questions are once again being asked loudly on social media.

Many users demanded that strict legal action be taken if negligence is proven.

One user wrote:

> “Every time there’s a safety lapse, the matter ends with excuses. Until someone is held accountable, the system will never improve.”

Conclusion

Although the situation is now under control, this incident serves as a strong reminder of how fragile safety protocols remain inside Pakistan’s public and judicial buildings.

The government has launched a formal inquiry, and a detailed report is expected in the coming days.

People are thankful that no lives were lost — yet they emphasize that such accidents must not be repeated in the future.

If a gas explosion can occur inside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, it raises serious concerns about safety standards in ordinary offices and public institutions across the country.
